The Two Wolves

Story of the wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, 'My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.'

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: 'Which wolf wins?'

The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you feed.’

What We Do

  • We've Made Some Changes

As many of you may know, we recently changed the name of our practice from Michael Parr & Associates to Chemical Dependency Treatment Associates Inc. The new name reflects changes to our practice that we are confident will enhance our clients’ care and recovery. The same basic treatment team remains in place, with a few additions. The most significant change is the addition of Dr. Angella Barr, who has partnered with Dr. Michael Parr to better serve the demands of our community. Dr. Barr is a board certified addiction medicine specialist, with a unique skill for buprenorphine (Suboxone) treatment for addiction and pain. Dr. Sandy Johnson also remains on the staff. Expanding the staff will allow CDTA to be more responsive while giving our physicians the ability to spend more time with each client.
  • What Will Not Change

What will not change is our commitment to providing clients with the most effective treatment. As a group, we aim to meet the challenges our clients face in managing their chemical dependency and ultimately helping them to overcome all obstacles. During that process we will show our clients the utmost respect. We honor their privacy and confidentiality.
  • Why We’re Different

Chemical Dependency Treatment Associates Inc. is a private facility and remains one of the few stand-alone out-client treatment facilities in Northern California. And CDTA does only one thing – treat alcohol and chemical dependency. We listen to the needs of our clients and we take the time to guide them toward the most successful outcome. CDTA takes a holistic approach, involving the client’s family and friends as needed and appropriate.

Testimonials

Throughout my life I struggled with addiction. Whether it was gambling, alcohol, cocaine, opiates, if I tried it, I went for it. I had over 10 years of scrambling in life, being dishonest with others and myself.

I first tried Vicodin in 2003. At first, it was for pain, and then it escalated to an everyday problem. Then, it got very serious.  My opiate addiction had gotten so serious that I was taking 40-50 pills a day, just to feel “normal.” My life had unraveled and I truly believed there was no way to get out of it.

In August of 2007 I decided I had enough and reached out to Dr. Parr. On August 15th, I met Dr. Parr at his clinic/office and he administered Suboxone for the first time. Immediately, I knew reaching out to Dr. Parr would change my life. I have been a patient/client/friend of Dr. Parr’s since 2007 and my life has taken a complete 180. I was deeply in financial distress at the time and I am now very successful. My relationships were extremely strained during my troubles but working with Dr. Parr on my relationships gave me the tools to repair those strained or even broken relationships.

At first, it was very hard to face the fact that I had destroyed relationships, hurt others and myself -- but with the help of Dr. Parr I have been able to get the tools to look inward and not only improve my life, but improve my relationships with my family, friends and other loved ones. The tools he has provided me are a different outlook on specific situations -- ways to deal with things that may trigger me to think about pills, etc. – as well as life in general.

I don’t know where I would be without Dr. Parr helping and guiding me through my tough times. One of the things I truly love about Dr. Parr is he leads by example. He has gone through the addiction process and he understands what is feels like and also what it takes to deal with those issues.

Thank you,

— Ben

Outpatient Opiate Detoxification

One of the specialties of Chemical Dependency Treatment Associates Inc. is opiate detoxification. Our opiate detoxification programs are administered on an out-client basis, allowing clients, after stabilization, to maintain their jobs while continuing treatment. A variety of medications may be used during treatment, including Buprenorphine/Suboxone, Vivitrol and other agents.

Chemical Dependency Treatment Associates Inc. has had hundreds of successful outcomes. Experience is especially important when it comes to opiate detoxification. Many doctors can prescribe Buprenorphine/Suboxone but very few are qualified to provide aftercare. And by law all Buprenorphine/Suboxone prescriptions must be accompanied by counseling, monitoring and the development of a recovery program.
