Throughout my life I struggled with addiction. Whether it was gambling, alcohol, cocaine, opiates, if I tried it, I went for it. I had over 10 years of scrambling in life, being dishonest with others and myself.
I first tried Vicodin in 2003. At first, it was for pain, and then it escalated to an everyday problem. Then, it got very serious. My opiate addiction had gotten so serious that I was taking 40-50 pills a day, just to feel “normal.” My life had unraveled and I truly believed there was no way to get out of it.
In August of 2007 I decided I had enough and reached out to Dr. Parr. On August 15th, I met Dr. Parr at his clinic/office and he administered Suboxone for the first time. Immediately, I knew reaching out to Dr. Parr would change my life. I have been a patient/client/friend of Dr. Parr’s since 2007 and my life has taken a complete 180. I was deeply in financial distress at the time and I am now very successful. My relationships were extremely strained during my troubles but working with Dr. Parr on my relationships gave me the tools to repair those strained or even broken relationships.
At first, it was very hard to face the fact that I had destroyed relationships, hurt others and myself -- but with the help of Dr. Parr I have been able to get the tools to look inward and not only improve my life, but improve my relationships with my family, friends and other loved ones. The tools he has provided me are a different outlook on specific situations -- ways to deal with things that may trigger me to think about pills, etc. – as well as life in general.
I don’t know where I would be without Dr. Parr helping and guiding me through my tough times. One of the things I truly love about Dr. Parr is he leads by example. He has gone through the addiction process and he understands what is feels like and also what it takes to deal with those issues.
Thank you,
From the first appointment our family had with Dr. Michael S. Parr I knew he was no ordinary doctor. His knowledge, professionalism, warmth and empathy helped us through many difficult conversations and treatment plans.
The treatment of addiction disorders has become an epidemic and finding a true professional combined with an honest and sincere approach was virtually impossible.
I feel very fortunate our family was referred to Dr. Parr. I believe his knowledge of addiction medicine coupled with his no-nonsense approach saved our lives.
Thank you Dr. Parr. The world is a better place with you in it.
I could not accept that I was an alcoholic in the truest sense of the word. Maybe I couldn’t believe that there was not a way to control my drinking. After all, I controlled everything in my life…or so I thought.
After a blackout drunk, while reading US News, I came across an advertisement that provided a website for alcohol addiction. I clicked on “Find a physician near you” and entered my zip code. Dr. Parr’s name appeared. I didn’t know it then, but someone saved my life that day.
I called Dr. Parr and made an appointment for an assessment. I was certain that he would find that I was not an alcoholic and that he would give me a medical method to control my drinking. Guess what? Didn’t happen.
Instead, there began my journey toward facing the disease of alcoholism. Dr. Parr has been a partner in that journey for more than five years, offering solutions during challenging times – both physical and psychological. The process of recovery has been the greatest gift of my life and I wish the same for you.
Help is only a phone call away. Do yourself a favor. Call for an assessment – it just may save your life.
How would you describe the perfect doctor? How about one that is knowledgeable, experienced, professional, compassionate, empathetic, understanding, attentive. An excellent listener, genuine, personable, and invested – in both your recovery and your overall happiness. Sound good? Meet Dr. Michael Parr.
In a sector of healthcare that is typically filled with doctors whose M.O. is suspicion and distrust, often treating their patients with disdain, it is such a blessing to have someone like Dr. Parr. The time I spend visiting with him in his office is so unlike what I’ve come to expect from a typical visit to the doctor…in a good way. It’s much more akin to sitting down and having a nice long conversation with an old friend…a friend that truly listens to what you have to say…a friend that offers not only insights, but practical solutions to help deal with life on life’s terms.
There is no assembly line medicine here. I’ve actually come to look on Dr. Parr as much more than just my “addiction specialist.” My monthly sessions with Dr. Parr have become a critical component of my recovery. In fact, I frequently refer to Dr. Parr as my “Recovery Manager.”
His knowledge of Buprenorphine and experience prescribing it is extensive and, unlike most outpatient clinics, Dr. Parr does not pressure his patients to quickly taper off. He has been extremely patient and flexible, developing a regimen that works best for me.
Honestly, I could go on and on about Dr. Parr because he truly means that much to me. Bottom line…I love this man. He is a kind soul that cares deeply for his patients and wants to offer them a viable alternative. I can say with supreme confidence that I would not be the man I am today were it not for his presence in my life.
I was so afraid that making the decision to get help with my addiction to pain killers would mean quitting cold turkey and I had tried that myself more times than I could count. It was painful and scary. Many people don't understand how difficult it is when you need another dose, another pill. It's all one can think about
I made the decision and when I met with Dr. Parr he explained how it would all work. The word "easy" didn't come to mind but I was no longer afraid of going through the pain and horror of quitting cord turkey, like I had before so many times.
During my first few appointments I realized that the hardest part was going to be the changes I had to make within my daily life, and changing behaviors. But I found comfort knowing that people like Dr. Sandra Johnson would be there to guide me and help me through it all. A support system is the key to making those life changes.
I've been coming for over two years, and I could write about how great and wonderful everyone is – what you would expect to read on a web site. Instead, I will tell you about the time not long ago when life got very hard. I wanted a pill or a fix to make it better. Even though Dr. Johnson on vacation, she responded by text and helped me through my crisis of the day. It is not like a doctor you go to see every now and then, who knows you by your chart. Dr. Johnson knows me, my family and the issues that haunt me. Of course, I wanted a relationship like that. I need someone that can be compassionate and caring, but still call me out on behaviors or thoughts that are counterproductive. You will see that they are not prescription refillers. They are your counselor and doctor, someone you can trust and reach out to. When I met Dr. Johnson I was in the worst place ever. She has helped me more than anyone could have imagined, by keeping in touch and caring.
This path has not been easy. But when there was something I could not handle, I turned to her and she has been there for me.
I walked into the office severely afflicted with opiate dependence and the disease of addiction. I had been that way for five years by this time, and I felt as though opiates virtually sustained my existence. I was suffering in the depths of my soul and in every cell of my physical body. And subsequently my family and loved ones suffered too. They were the collateral damage; helpless amidst the chaos of my disease, and it broke my heart to see it. I finally arrived at the conclusion that something had to be done.
Throughout the years I have cycled through a number of different inpatient rehabs, outpatient rehabs and suboxone clinics seeking recovery but I was always unsuccessful.
People often don’t realize that the ingredients have to be just right for this kind of treatment to succeed, and that starts with compatibility between the patient and his or her healthcare providers. Dr. Sandra Johnson is the addiction specialist who I have worked with closely throughout the last 6 months of suboxone treatment. I had a positive experience from my very first appointment and throughout the whole ongoing process. The office staff and medical staff were extremely knowledgeable and professional; a class act in every respect. I immediately recognized that this was the medical profession at its best.
With my family being a cornerstone in my recovery, I even brought them in to participate in my recovery treatment. I feel the staff and my doctor went above and beyond to make my family feel comfortable and answer their many questions as well. It was not just an everyday clinical experience for me. It was so much more than that. It was a profound, human experience-- a mission of self-discovery aided by a medical professional.
The success of my recovery is attributed to my own willingness to seek help in tandem with Dr. Johnson’s medical expertise and her honest dedication. It was not just professional knowledge and expertise that my doctor poured into forming a comprehensive treatment plan for me, she poured her heart into it as well. Through a series of one-on-one meetings, Dr. Johnson successfully helped me form an understanding of my disease that was comprised of both its physical elements and, more importantly, its psychological elements. The approach was aimed at me as an individual -- what I had personally been through, how I felt about myself and where I wanted to be. My suffering was known, acknowledged and explored. As I became more aware of the components of my disease, I realized that I could only expect to take as much from this treatment as I was willing to put into it. And from this partnership between patient and physician, healing began to take place and progress in my recovery was accomplished in every passing day.
Today I walk free from the bondage and away from the damage that my addiction had imposed upon me for so long. I am liberated by the power of healing that took root in my life as a direct result of the awesome quality of treatment that I received. The combination of individual therapy, supplemented by the miraculous benefits of suboxone, proved to be imperative for me to arrest control over my life, my health and my impulses.
I thank my doctor, Dr. Johnson, as well as Dr. Parr and all his staff for their extraordinary effort in providing me with the proper and exceptional treatment that I so badly needed in my quest for wellness and recovery.
